Visitor rescued off Kalalau Trail after suffering apparent heart issue
First responders with the Kauaʻi Fire Department rescued a distressed visitor off the Kalalau Trail on Wednesday.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., firefighters with the Līhu‘e Fire Station on board Air 1 helicopter were dispatched to Hanakāpīʻai Beach. Once on the scene, they discovered a 53-year-old visitor with alleged heart issues, according to a county press release this morning.
The distressed hiker was then short-hauled to the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport.
The hiker was then transferred to American Medical Response for further medical care.
